Artemis was part of a team of Amazons stationed in Themyscira. They had successfully fought against a group of Amazon citizens infected by the Beast Boy Spores and had transformed into anthropomorphic creatures, but then they disappeared.
Wonder Woman was now exploring a forest area where Amazon soldiers had reported signs of a giant creature wearing Artemis’ armor repeatedly performing surprise attacks on soldiers and spraying them with a venom that left them paralyzed, allowing Beast Boy Spores to infect them easily.
As Wonder Woman walked through the thickets, she could tell something was watching her. Pretending to lower her guard, she leaned down, acting as if she was sorting out her boot, but instead picked up a rock, spun around and threw it at the battle axe that was coming her way.
Seconds later, a red creature sprang out of the bushes, which Wonder Woman leapt into the air to avoid. Wonder Woman spun around in the air and saw a long, muscular, red-scaled anthropomorphic female cobra creature with glowing green eyes slither towards the axe, pick it up, turn around to face Wonder Woman, and angrily hiss. Wonder Woman knew she had found Artemis from the creature's tattered armor.
Artemis coiled herself up and sprang towards Wonder Woman at lightning speed. Wonder Woman avoided Artemis only for the snake woman to hook herself on a tree, making her spin around back towards Wonder Woman, who this time smacked Artemis to the ground. Wonder Woman charged towards Artemis, attempting to hit her again, only for the snake to defend herself with the battle axe. As Wonder Woman tried to push through Artemis’s defense, she noticed Artemis raise her head slightly. Sensing something terrible was about to happen, Wonder Woman leapt away, narrowly avoiding the venom Artemis sprayed from her mouth.
Regular Artemis had been a challenging opponent for Wonder Woman when she was human. Now that she was a snake beast, Wonder Woman knew this would be a long fight, especially since Artemis appeared to retain her natural fighting instincts in her snake form. As Wonder Woman strategized a way to defeat Artemis, the snake swung her axe at a tree, slicing straight through it. Artemis’ tail wrapped around the tree and flung it at Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman quickly pulled out her Lasso of Truth, flung it at the incoming tree, and caught it.
At that moment, she had an idea, and she spun around, flinging the tree back at Artemis, temporarily blocking her vision. Artemis sliced through the tree with her axe, and to her surprise, Wonder Woman had vanished. As Artemis looked around for her opponent, Wonder Woman came rocketing out of the sky, tackling Artemis to the ground.
While on the ground, Wonder Woman wrapped the Lasso of Truth around Artemis and said, “Artemis, remember who you truly are. You are not a primitive beast; you are a proud Amazon Warrior. Remember.”
Artemis struggled against Wonder Woman for a few minutes, but then her eyes stopped glowing green, and she stopped resisting and calmed down. Wonder Woman climbed off, leaving the lasso wrapped around Artemis and asked, “Is that you in there, Artemis?”
The snake woman slowly rose and nodded her head, making Wonder Woman breathe a sigh of relief.
“Good”, Wonder Woman said. “We could use your new powers dealing with the rest-”
A voice shouted at her before she could finish.
“Diana” came the voice. Wonder Woman looked up and saw Mary Marvel flying above her. “Cassie and Yara need your help,” Mary cried urgently.
