As Brad, Emily, and Leila made their way through the forest, searching once again for a way out, the trio were quieter than usual. None of them wanted to say anything. Not about how hopelessly lost they were. Not about how they had seen Leila’s friend Brittany transform into a mindless animal only a few hours before. And certainly not about how it looked like, if they didn’t find help, Emily would probably be joining her soon.
Emily made a low grunt in her throat that was part irritation, part exhaustion, and part fear as she lumbered her way through the thick tangle of trees. While she had managed to keep herself from fully transforming the night before, her sexual lapse of judgment with Brittany had still had a profound effect of the woman’s mind and body. She had tried to stand after the incident, only to realize that her body no longer allowed her to remain easily upright. Now, she was forced to walk on all fours like an animal. And the most horrifying thing was now natural doing so felt to her.
In fact, the further they walked into the forest, the more at home Emily felt, which only frightened her all the more. She found herself needing to focus, to remind herself that she didn't belong in the woods, that she was a human woman named Emily who lived in the city. Not some dirty, stupid animal... not some fat furry bear crashing through the trees, big belly rumbling in hunger... not... not... not a horny beast, her loins aching for the eager lapping of a powerful mate... a mate who would then climb atop her... grunting breath hot in her ears... eliciting a bestial roar from her as she was filled with his seed...
She let out another grunt as she caught her mind wandering once again to animal needs. No! This was wrong. She needed to focus, but it was getting harder and harder, her thoughts still so slow and sluggish from the night before. Fear and determination mixed with hunger and arousal in a jumble of thoughts and instincts that Emily had a hard time parsing, but she did her best. She had to. Can't... lose myself. Not again. Need to remember. Emily. Not bear. Not animal... Emily. Smart Emily. Love Brad... not bear...
From a few paces behind, Brad watched his girlfriend's struggle, desperate to help but unsure just how. He felt so powerless, watching the woman he loved slowly slip away bit by bit. At first he had tried talking to her, reassuring her, but that had only seemed to upset her more, so instead he stayed silently behind, taking in all the changes, big and small, that wracked her big furry body.
By his side, Leila reached over and held his hand, and he found himself grateful for her presence. If there was anyone in the world who understood what he was going through, it was her, having lost her best friend to the same strange magic only a few hours before. He turned to Leila and smiled at her, but there was only sadness in his eyes, mirrored in Leila's own unconvincing expression of reassurance.
The three of them pressed forward, desperate for an end to the forest and the nightmare they found themselves in, though all they found was more woods as the soft twinkling of the fireflies drifted overhead like faint laughter.
